angel island

i chaperoned mahala's fieldtrip to angel island - our first time here. beautiful day and lost of history about immigration. is the place that many chinese immigrants were kept. some felt so trapped that they started carving poems into the walls as a creative and emotional outlet.

yes fest

we didn't have too long to spend at the yes fest, but the kids got a chance to take part in their class performances, mahala dancing and noble singing. then we had to rush off to the final track meet.

postponed birthday

we postponed douglas's birthday but that gave me time to make a dairy free, gluten free cake!

track meet

douglas's birthday was spent at a track meet this year - an all day event. we squeezed in dinner to celebrate but were too tired for cake. so we waited until the next day to celebrate! mahala got 1st place in her 100 event and 4th in long jump. we're so proud she did her best!

santa cruz

aric and claudia were in town doing the big sur marathon, we met up with them after the marathon for time at the uc santa cruz arboretum and the beach.

noble goes to the dump

time for noble's class to go to the dump! a popular field trip to learn all about recycling and to see the unusual collection of animals that live there - most notably the peacocks!

science fair 2014

the school science fair happened this week. the kids did their projects pretty last minute (as always) but in the end they came out really well. and the science fair was a big play date as usual! mahala and the green team sold their home-made chocolates during the event.

easter with the franks

all of the franks came to join is for easter lunch and an easter egg hunt. the kids are always excited when their cousins come to visit :)

lots of dye made for some fantastic eggs. we made it just in time too - the day before easter!

fresh from spain

tony and natalie came for a short visit on their spring break. the kids were so happy to see natalie again!

the ailors visit

the ailors came to visit - eric's first visit to our house. we went out and about but mostly the kids just played!

WE Day Oakland

mahala's class went to WE Day in Oakland - in honor of encouraging kids to be service minded. it was HUGE. there were actors and musicians and way too many kids! very inspiring though.

spirit day

it was "what you want to be when you grow up" day at school - noble wants to be a skier and was getting in touch with his norwegian roots.
